“…we should be remembered for the things we do. The things we do are the most important things of all. They are more important than what we say or what we look like. The things we do outlast our mortality.”
— R.J. Palacio
As I struggled with what to write to begin this family genealogy blog, I wanted to be certain to acknowledge two people who made all the difference for me. For I was truly blessed that Mamaw, Rebecca Reed Baldridge, and Dad, Rudolph Baldridge, were in my life and always there to support and love me.
For my two brothers, Eddie and Bobby, my sister, Anita Louise, and me, unbounded and unconditional love from Mamaw and Dad was our only constant through often troubled and uncertain lives. We little realized it growing up, but they truly were our only hope; without them our lives would have been far different.
There is much that I want to tell about the many sacrifices made for our benefit by Mamaw and Dad. They gave all that they had to give, and even when there was no more to give, they never failed us. It is a story of love and they are the heroes.
I believe they must have known how much I loved them, and how much I appreciated all that they did for me. I regret that I didn’t tell them more often.
Mamaw and Dad are gone from my life now, but they will always be the root and foundation of this family’s tree and the heart of our family history.
